Why are you running?
When I first ran for mayor my goal was to see forward movement in long needed areas of business development and housing. The revenue stream that has grown from these areas of development has provided the needed funds for improved services such as street improvements, flood relief and infrastructure. I want to continue to advance these multi-million dollar projects.
What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
A major issue in this race is flood relief for citizens. This relief is two-fold, one for citizens who are required by FEMA to carry expensive flood insurance to get out of the flood zone classification and the other is getting a major portion of stormwater and sewer lines separated. Both of the projects are moving forward with funding from the federal government, IEPA, Madison County and a special 1% sales tax. The sales tax that I spearheaded and campaigned for will support the city’s portion of the costs without burdening the homeowner on property taxes.
Why should people vote for you?
I’m proud of the progress that I have made in my first four years as mayor with housing growth, revenue growth and street improvements. The other major $20 million infrastructure projects are all in the beginning stages and we need to see them to completion. I am the right person, with the right experience.
