Please list highlights of your civic involvement: I have been involved with the Granite City Warrior Hockey Club for 10 years, two as vice president and eight as president. I have organized successful fundraisers for the club that help keep the dues some of the lowest in the league giving more kids the opportunity to play the game. I have also been involved in community cleanups in the city getting players of our hockey team involved to teach them to have some civic pride.
Why are you running? I am running because I have a love and have pride for the city that I have lived in my entire life. I want to be part of the improvement and not sit on the sidelines complaining. While I may be new to city government, if elected, I will work hard to learn the nuances of the position so I can do my best to improve the constituents in my ward and people of Granite City.
What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it? I think that one of our biggest problems is the urban blight this city has encountered over several years if not decades. The problem of residents and businesses leaving, to current absentee landlords of both businesses and homes letting their properties fall into disrepair. In addition, the current increases in crime and drugs all contribute to the current situation we find ourselves. I do feel a plan has and will be put in motion to curb, if not reverse the trajectory we have been headed. I believe that the proposed enterprise zone as well as the recently started “One house at a time” program will do wonders and I will work to see that to fruition and continued.
Why should people vote for you? I believe people should vote for me because I am honest and will work hard to help improve not only my ward, but all of Granite City.
