Customer service representative

Agency: Department of Natural Resources

Wage: $15 to $19 per hour

Location: Sparta

Application deadline: May 31

Minimum qualifications for this position include “knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of 8 years of elementary school.” Preferred qualifications include knowledge of personal computers and office equipment, ability to understand and follow “simple oral and written instructions” and willingness to learn shooting discipline rules and regulations. The position is located at Sparta’s World Shooting & Recreation Complex.

Job responsibilities include, the listing says:

  • “Explain events in detail to customers (in person, email and over the phone).

  • Sell targets/collect appropriate fees, make proper change, turn in the proper amount of revenue to manager.

  • Provide customers with proper amount of coins/targets for Promatic card, when needed.

  • Send/receive emails as needed from manager.

  • Complete daily report forms, file paperwork.

  • Light housekeeping and stocking office supplies, as needed.”

Employment & training coordinator (Executive I)

Wage: $5,311 to $7,856 per month

Location: East St. Louis

Minimum qualifications for this position include “knowledge, skill, and mental development” equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with coursework in business or public administration, and one year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program, the listing says.

There are additional preferred qualifications, including professional experience with federal cash programs, public assistance eligibility systems and more.

Responsibilities for the position include, according to the listing:

  • “Develops positive communication and relationships with local employers and training resources, both those with Department of Human Services (DHS) contracts and those outside the contractual relationships.

  • Directs, guides, and assists local Family and Community Resource Center (FCRC) staff on the completion of appropriate action(s) on returned referrals, progress reports, attendance sheets, and budgeting earned income received from contractors to assure that all appropriate action is taken with clients who do not participate in accordance with their responsibility or service plan/employability plan.

  • Organizes community-wide events allowing clients and employment and training resources to meet and identify opportunities for relations that enhance employment and training activity.

  • Monitors and assists staff in maintaining the mandated federal participation rate for core activities of the cash programs.”

Employment security representative

Agency: Department of Employment Security

Wage: Anticipated starting salary is $4,439 monthly; the full range is $4,439 to $6,377 monthly

Location: Belleville

Minimum qualifications for this position include “knowledge, skills and mental development” equivalent to four years in college with an academic background in social/behavioral sciences or business, or two years of experience as a department intermittent staff member and a minimum of two (2) years college credits completed with passing grades in social/behavioral sciences or business, or four (4) years as a department intermittent staff member, the listing says.

Current Illinois state government employees in the Upward Mobility program may be able to fulfill alternative training programs to qualify for this position.

The position requires an Illinois State Police background check and self-disclosure of any criminal history, as well as an ability to travel and attend seminars.

Job responsibilities include, according to the listing:

  • “Under general supervision, for an assigned area, serves as a Program Representative for the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES)

Highway maintainer - Sign shop

Agency: Department of Transportation

Wage: $6,147 to $7,680 per month

Location: Fairview Heights

Minimum qualifications for this position include “knowledge, skill, and mental development” equivalent to the completion of four years of high school and possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements to include X or N and no airbrake restrictions.

Job responsibilities include, the listing says:

  • “Installs signposts, signs, barricades.

  • Performs general repairs of signs to complete work orders used to detail daily sign work.

  • Keeps daily logs of all activities.

  • Performs a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair and upkeep of roads, bridges and other related structures and features.

  • Operates CDL Class A licensed vehicles including maintenance trucks, pavement marking equipment, digger-derrick equipment, as well as other equipment including air compressors, hydraulic equipment (post diggers), generators and other sign shop equipment used in the construction of signs and barricades.

  • Washes, greases, and conducts minor repairs and preventive maintenance activities of these vehicles and equipment.

  • Performs general labor relating to maintenance of traffic signal equipment and luminaires.

  • Repairs specialized pavement marking and other traffic related equipment.

  • Repairs guardrails and fence.

  • Performs labor relating to unique projects such as rumble bar installations, pavement marking removal, special pavement markings and curb top reflector installations.

  • During periods of inclement weather, operates snowplows, spreads salt, sand, abrasives & liquids.

  • Plows and removes snow.

  • Erects special signage.

  • Performs labor to support emergency efforts.

  • Responds to emergency weather situations, as instructed verbally or in writing, to inspect roadways and remove hazardous material/obstacles, some weighing up to 50 pounds, from roadways and drainage areas.”

District estimating engineer

Agency: Department of Transportation

Wage: Anticipated range $6,098 to $7,598 monthly

Location: Collinsville

Minimum qualifications for this engineer position include current registration as a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, four years of experience in civil engineering and successful completion of a background screening. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of construction, traffic control, land utilization and environmental issues, in-depth knowledge of construction techniques and familiarity with construction materials and labor costs, the listing says.

The position’s responsibilities include, according to the listing:

  • “Provides cost estimating expertise to all district bureaus that require a cost foundation to establish programs.

  • Provides final cost estimates on all state and local projects which are used for the decision-making criteria on whether to accept or reject contractor’s bids.

  • Provides engineering methodology and cost factors to the Studies and Plans Unit to determine the final design of the various components of a project.

  • Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge of national and local economics and construction trends.

  • Provides reviews and approval of all agreed unit price items in relation to the costs of the items, determines the reasons for these changes and/or additions, and provides feedback information to designers to improve plans preparation and avoid extra cost during construction.

  • Provides all information necessary for obtaining federal funding for projects.

  • Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel.

  • Prepares Pre-Letting Cost Estimates and Post Letting Summary for the regional engineer and staff.

  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.”
