VOTE: What high school football game in southwest IL do you plan to attend in Week 1?

The time has just about arrived for high school football to start in the metro-east.

Week 1 is set for Friday, Aug. 26, will a long list of quality football games to attend.

In this regard, the latest Belleville News-Democrat poll wants to know what game you’re planning to attend this weekend.

Below is a list of a baker’s dozen amount of choices, with the local team’s 2021 record included. All games are Friday, Aug. 26, unless otherwise noted. The poll closes at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

  • John Burroughs at Althoff: Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Crusaders went 3-6 last season.
  • Cahokia at Alton: Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Comanches went 5-5 last season, losing in the first round of the playoffs, while the Redbirds went 1-8.
  • Belleville West at Danville: Kickoff is at 6 p.m. The Maroons went 0-9 last season.
  • Belleville East at Collinsville: Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Lancers went 3-6 last season, while the Kahoks went 8-2, losing in the first round of the postseason.
  • East St. Louis vs. Baltimore St. Francis at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton Ohio: Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. The Flyers went 11-3 last season, losing to Cary-Grove in the state championship game.
  • Edwardsville at Jackson, Missouri: Kickoff is at at 7 p.m. The Tigers went 5-5 last season.
  • Columbia at Mascoutah: Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Indians went 9-2 last season, losing in the second round of the playoffs, while the Eagles went 5-5 last season, losing in the first round of the playoffs.
  • O’Fallon at Normal Community West: Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Panthers went 6-4 last season, losing in the first round of the playoffs.
  • Triad at Mattoon: Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Knights went 8-3 last season, losing in the second round of the playoffs.
  • Waterloo at Mater Dei: Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Knights went 11-1 season, losing in the third round of the playoffs, while the Bulldogs went 3-6 last season.
  • Freeburg at Sparta: Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Midgets went 9-3 last season, losing in the third round of the playoffs, while the Bulldogs went 0-9.
  • Wesclin at Breese Central: Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Cougars went 10-2 last season, losing in the third round of the playoffs, while the Warriors went 4-5 last season.
  • Highland at Washington: Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs went 5-5 last season, losing in the first round of the playoffs.
