East St. Louis four-star wide receiver makes Arizona State his college pick
After terrorizing opposing defenses with his blazing speed and raw talent for the past two years, East St. Louis senior wide receiver Dominic Lovett is heading west for his college football career.
Ranked by 247 Sports as the third best player in the state for the Class of 2021, Lovett announced Friday that he has given a verbal commitment to attend Arizona State University beginning next fall.
The 5-10, 175-pound Lovett is rated as a four-star recruit and is ranked by 247 Sports as the 52nd best senior wide receiver and one of the top 300 players in the nation.
Lovett, one of four superb wide receivers on an East St. Louis football team which finished 14-0 and won its ninth state title in November, caught 73 passes for 1,541 yards and 16 touchdowns a year ago.
He had offers from most of the top programs in the nation including Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Texas A&M, Oregon and Penn State.
Penn State, defending national champion LSU, and Missouri were believed to be among Lovett’s top choices.
Lovett began breaking school records at Belleville West, where he caught 45 passes for 1,029 yards and 24 touchdowns as a sophomore. He transferred to East St. Louis in time for his junior season and the Flyers Illinois Class 6A championship run.
Lovett is the second current Flyers wide receiver to commit to a PAC-12 school. Keontez Lewis gave a verbal commitment to UCLA earlier this summer.
Senior quarterback Tyler Macon committed to Missouri this spring.
The Sun Devils are coached by former NFL great and ESPN analyst Herm Edwards who is 15-11 in two seasons. ASU was 8-5 a year ago and won the Sun Bowl.
