Zacchaues Williams, 31, of St. Louis, is accused of driving under the influence when the crash occurred, killing two female passengers in the car.

State Police said they charged a 31-year-old St. Louis man with driving under the influence after a vehicle he was driving struck a tree along Interstate 64 in Washington County. Two of his passengers died.

The one-vehicle crash happened around 1 a.m. Friday.

Trooper Christopher Watson, of Illinois State Police District 13, said in a news release that the driver, Zacchaues Williams, was flown to a regional hospital with serious injuries. State Police said Williams was not wearing a safety belt and was driving a 1993 Cadillac with three others in the vehicle.

The Washington County coroner’s office said last week that two women were killed in the crash: 20-year-old Chelsea Dunn and 19-year-old Wilyssa Moore. State Police said both women resided in Mount Vernon. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The office said both women were found unrestrained in the back seat and were extricated from the vehicle by the Nashville Fire Department.

Police said another passenger, 30-year-old Jessica McSwain, was taken to a local hospital and was considered in “good” condition. McSwain was wearing a seat belt, according to police.

According to preliminary information gathered by State Police, Williams was eastbound in the left lane of Interstate 64. At mile marker 54 in Washington County, the vehicle went off the right side of the road and hit a tree.

Watson said the driver was issued citations for DUI, improper lane usage and driving without a valid driver’s license.

State Police said the investigation was continuing.
