Severe crash near New Baden shuts down portion of I-64

A two vehicle collision involving a semi tractor trailer and a passenger car had traffic diverted on Interstate 64 at mile post 25 near New Baden.

Illinois State Police say the crash happened at 12:27 p.m. Tuesday. The drivers had not been identified as of 2:55 p.m, but police and fire crews at the scene described the crash as “very serous.”

“Two west bound lanes on Intestate 64 where the collision occurred were shut down,” said Illinois State Police Trooper Joshua Korando. “Motorists were were re-routed to the exit just in front of the crash scene.

“Both drivers were traveling west on Interstate 64.”

Lebanon Fire Department responded to the accident with aid from from Mascoutah Fire Department.
