Popular metro-east taco joint announces its summer return at new location
Ten months after calling it quits for its food truck operations, Tony’s Tacos announced this week that it will return this summer in a new brick-and-mortar location.
According to the announcement, Tony’s Tacos hopes to open later this month and will share updates on social media during the process.A voice message left for owner Tony Oseguera was not immediately returned.
Additional details will be reported as they become available.The restaurant will be located at 1011 Caseyville Road in Caseyville, the current site of 1101 Bar and Grill.
The owners of 1101 Bar and Grill are closing their doors this week after two years in business.
The business’ social media posts say the owners will hand over the business to Tony’s Tacos. Their last bingo night event takes place Friday. The business will be closed Saturday for the Fourth of July holiday.
Known for its tacos, Tony’s Tacos started as a food truck business and later opened a restaurant location at 1550 E. State Route 15 in Belleville, the current location of El Jacal Mexican Restaurant.
Oseguera closed the Belleville location while planning to move to Old Herald Brewery & Distillery in Collinsville in May 2025. Tony’s Tacos took over the Old Herald kitchen for Cinco de Mayo as a test run before announcing its permanent move.
However, the partnership between Tony’s Tacos and Old Herald fell through at the last minute.
The food truck continued operating as Oseguera searched for a new site in the Collinsville area. In September, the business officially closed, and it was unclear whether the closure was temporary or permanent.
