Suspect in 5 Madison County bank robberies arrested in Atlanta

A man suspected in a string of bank robberies has been arrested in Atlanta.

Dandre Brown, 30, was arrested in Atlanta and will be returned to Madison County to face trial, according to the Alton Telegraph. He is suspected in five bank robberies in Madison County, which Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons said could mean an enhanced sentence of up to 150 years.

Brown was the suspect sought for five bank robberies in Edwardsville, Wood River, East Alton, Godfrey and Alton in recent weeks.

The most recent robbery was the First MidAmerica Credit Union in Edwardsville, which was robbed by a man with his left arm in a sling Jan. 10. He was caught on surveillance video and ran away through the Montclaire Shopping Center, police said.

The earlier robberies took place Nov. 29 in Alton and three weeks later at Reliance Bank in Godfrey, then on Jan. 2 in Wood River.

Gibbons told the Telegraph that his office was coordinating with federal authorities to determine whether Brown will be tried in federal or state court.
