Three more coronavirus deaths in southwestern Illinois bring local total to 15

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in southwestern Illinois reached 469 on Monday, while the number of deaths increased to 15, with three more announced by St. Clair and Monroe counties.

Two coronavirus-positive patients died as a result of complications from the virus, the Monroe County Health Department director said Monday. Both people were associated with an outbreak of COVID-19 at Garden Place assisted living facility for seniors in Columbia.

Also on Monday, the St. Clair County Health Department reported the death of a man in his 70s who had underlying health conditions.

The previous reported deaths in the region have occurred in St. Clair County, which now has 10; Madison County, two; and Monroe County, now has three.

Madison, Clinton and Macoupin counties reported new cases Monday as well.

Statewide, 794 people with COVID-19 have died. A total of 22,052 cases had been reported as of Monday afternoon by the Illinois Department of Public Health. There have been 105,768 coronavirus tests conducted across the state.
