The XFL season is over.

The start-up league announced late Thursday afternoon that is suspending play immediately do to the Coronavirus outbreak.

According to a statement from the league all players will be paid their base pay and benefits through the regular season. All XFL ticket holders will be issued refunds toward future games.

The statement also said the XFL is committed to playing a full season in 2021 and beyond.

The XFL announcement is the latest in a series of cancellations and postponements in both college and professional sports in the last 24 hours. On Thursday alone, the NCAA canceled its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, the National Hockey League suspended its season and Major League Baseball halted spring training.

The NBA suspended its season late Wednesday night.

The St. Louis BattleHawks were tied for first place in the East Division with a 3-2 record. The St. Louis franchise was one of the most successful, drawing two of three largest crowds of the season in its two home games.
