Southwestern Illinois College announced Friday that spring break will be extended a week as a precaution over coronavirus concerns.
The college is already on break this week and now will be off next week as well.
Other colleges in the region previously have announced schedule changes in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus.
SWIC is reviewing “alternative instructional delivery” methods, such as online classes, to offer students on March 23 and continuing to April 3 in an effort to reduce the number of people on its campuses.
Students currently enrolled in online courses will continue as normal.
SWIC has campuses in Belleville, Granite City and Red Bud.
No student, faculty or staff has tested positive on any SWIC campus, the college said.
“I want to thank everyone for their cooperation, patience, and understanding as we navigate through this complicated and difficult issue. Again, we continue to assess this situation as it evolves and will provide timely updates as needed,” SWIC President Nick Mance said in a news release.
